About Us

Polka Dots is a home based business run by Christie Hollstein, and is located in Morris County New Jersey.  

I am a graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York , where I majored in Graphic Design and obtained my BFA. I have worked for several years as a graphic designer for a major retailer, however, after starting our family I decided to leave the corporate world and start designing for friends and family. I started creating designs for onesies and burp cloths for my expecting friends and new moms as gifts. Essentially, that is when the concept of Polka Dots was born.  But it wasn't until my mother-in-law purchased an embroidery machine that Polka Dots really took off. We went to classes together on how to use and maintain the machine and how to digitize my personal designs. I could now take my designs to the next level! What started out as a small hobby creating personalized designs and using iron on transfer paper… has grown into a fantastic business of custom embroidery. Without the help of my mother-in-law, I would never be able to bring you the personalized apparel & accessories seen on this site. And as a “stay at home mom”, it is a joy that I am now able to be with my children & do what I love as my “job”.
